Navigation Voice
Navigation Voice settings control the voice used for turn-by-turn directions during route navigation.
Automatic Voice Selection
By default, Bike IQ selects a navigation voice based on your device locale. If your iPhone is set to French, you get a French-speaking voice. If it is set to English (US), you get an American English voice. This works out of the box with no configuration needed.
You can override the automatic selection if you prefer a different voice or language. The voice you choose persists across rides until you change it.
Premium Voices
iOS offers both standard and enhanced (premium) voices. Enhanced voices sound more natural with better intonation and pronunciation. They are larger downloads but make a noticeable difference on longer rides where you hear dozens of voice prompts.
If an enhanced voice is available for your language but not yet downloaded, you can install it through Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices on your iPhone. Once downloaded, it appears as an option in Bike IQ's voice settings.
Multi-Language Support
Bike IQ supports navigation voices in any language that iOS provides text-to-speech for. This includes English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin, and many others. If you are riding in a country where you speak the local language, switching the navigation voice to match can make turn instructions easier to process quickly.
The voice language is independent of the app interface language. You can run the app in English but use a French navigation voice, or any other combination.
Voice Preview
The Preview button lets you hear how a voice sounds before committing to it for a ride. Tap preview next to any voice to hear a sample navigation instruction. This saves you from discovering mid-ride that the voice you chose is hard to understand at speed or does not pronounce street names the way you expect.
Test voices at a volume similar to what you will use while riding. A voice that sounds clear in a quiet room may not cut through wind noise and traffic at the same volume.
