Privacy Policy
Effective date: January 29, 2026
Bike IQ is developed by Hatch Factory LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
Information We Collect
Account Information
Bike IQ creates an anonymous account using Firebase Authentication. No email, name, or personal identifiers are required to use the app. Your anonymous account ID is used only to sync your settings and preferences.
Location Data
We collect precise GPS location data only during active rides when you explicitly start a ride recording. This data is used to:
- Track your route, speed, distance, and elevation
- Calculate grade and ride dynamics
- Retrieve weather conditions at your location for wind impact calculations
Location data is not collected when the app is closed or when you're not recording a ride. Your ride data is stored locally on your device and backed up through iCloud.
Health and Fitness Data
With your explicit permission, Bike IQ may access Apple HealthKit to:
- Read heart rate data from a paired Apple Watch during rides
- Read cycling workout data when importing rides from HealthKit
- Write cycling workout data when saving completed rides to HealthKit
HealthKit access is optional and requires your consent for each data type. We do not store your health data on our servers. Health data accessed through HealthKit is never shared with third parties or used for advertising.
Motion Data
Bike IQ uses your device's motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope) through Apple's CoreMotion framework only during active rides. This data is used for sensor fusion, detecting bike motion and orientation, and enhancing power estimation. Motion data is not collected when you're not recording a ride.
Photos
If you choose to add a photo of your bike, we request access to your photo library. Photos are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
Analytics and Diagnostics
We collect anonymous data to improve app stability and features:
- Usage Analytics: Anonymous usage patterns via Firebase
- Crash Reports: Diagnostic data via Firebase Crashlytics
- Service Improvement: Bike IQ may occasionally collect anonymized, non-identifying data to improve the app
All data collected for these purposes is anonymous and cannot be linked to your identity or location. This data is stored securely on Firebase and is never sold or shared with third parties.
Third-Party Services
Bike IQ integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
Apple Weather
We use Apple's WeatherKit to retrieve current weather conditions at your location during rides. Your location is sent to Apple to fetch weather data. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Mapbox
We use Mapbox for maps and navigation. Your location and route data may be sent to Mapbox to render maps and provide directions. See Mapbox Privacy Policy.
Firebase (Google)
We use Firebase for crash reporting and analytics. See Firebase Privacy Policy.

If you connect your Strava account, we share ride data (route, distance, time, elevation, and performance metrics) with Strava when you publish rides. We may also retrieve routes from your Strava account. See Strava Privacy Policy.
